Laughly To Become World’s First Comedy Streaming App To Broadcast Live At Comedy Festivals & Clubs

  • Posted on April 10, 2017

While many people will never hear a professional comic live while inside a big-city club or at a regional comedy festival, Laughly is about to deliver that sonic experience to listeners everywhere. Beginning Saturday, April 8, Laughly will become the first app to launch an audio livestreaming feature, allowing users to hear, live and unedited, some of the best comedy events in the country.

The new livestream feature will debut in tandem with a newly redesigned version of the app, the world’s first streaming audio app devoted to stand-up comedy, offering the most extensive comedy library with albums and routines from more than 700 comedians, Laughly was recently named Best New Startup in the Entertainment & Content category at the 2017 SXSW Festival.

By giving its users immediate and exclusive access to original content as it comes to life, Laughly founder and CEO Dave Scott is shepherding a new paradigm – the democratization of comedy. “Our goal is twofold. For audiences, no matter where you live, you can have an All-Access pass to the very best comedy shows, enjoying major stars and discovering new talents,” said Scott. “For comics, it extends Laughly’s mission to help them gain exposure and build their fan base, protecting their acts from bootlegging and jokelifting with the immediacy of the livestream.”

In seeking to regularly partner with comedy festivals and clubs, Laughly will debut its livestream programming with the World Series of Comedy regionals in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and the Moontower Comedy Festival in Austin, Texas, featuring an unparalleled lineup of comedic talent including Jim Gaffigan, Margaret Cho, Patton Oswalt, Jay Pharoah, Chris Hardwick and Ali Wong.

“As Moontower continues to grow, we are thrilled to partner with Laughly to help us expand the reach of our content. Laughly lets us bring the experience of the festival directly into people’s cars, homes, and hands,” said Janie Richards, Corporate Partnership Manager for Moontower Comedy Festival.

With its first foray into livestreaming, Laughly’s new feature will be free for its subscribers, with select pay-per-listen events. Users will be able to access comedy club shows for 24 hours after the livestream has ended; festival performances will only be available live, with no archives.

Initial Laughly livestreamed events include:

  • April 8: World Series of Comedy regionals, Chattanooga, TN
  • April 19-22: Moontower Comedy Festival, Austin, TX
  • May 15: Funniest Person in Austin, Austin, TX
  • May 20: Carmen Lynch, New York, NY
  • With many more on the way!
